One of the darkest albums ever recorded and an icon in the post punk world, Joy Divisions second and final studio set was released in 1980. Released two months after singer Ian Curtis’s suicide, the record’s layered and austere sound marked a progression from its celebrated predecessor, Unknown Pleasures, with synthesizers and studio effects likewise playing a more prominent role. The results were nothing short of staggering, and to this day make for a challenging, almost haunting listen.
