Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon
Audiophile 180 gram Heavyweight Virgin Vinyl
Sealed in original shrink wrap.
With Two stickers. Two posters (group poster with "SHVL 804" in the lower right corner. 30th anniversary poster.)
Technically, not really a re-issue, as this record has been remastered using the original (Dolby A) master tape and a tube playback machine from the original dub - (not "digitally remastered") - these were a whole new cut from the original 51/4" tapes from EMI at Abbey road studios from 1973... remastered and machined in the traditional analog way, and widely acknowledged as one of the best cuts of The Dark Side of the Moon that you can get.
If you want a collectors item investment... this issue (sealed) is rapidly rising in value.
If you want a player, then this particular issue offers the best sound (by a considerable margin) at a reasonable price.... it is comparable (and in many places better) than the first and best issues from the UK and Japan... and a sealed one of those issues, will set you back many Thousands of dollars, if you can find one.
This issue offers a lot of value in every area of record collecting and playing
These are technically a first issue record, pressed from a newly mastered and machined father, - via new mothers, and fresh stampers on 180 gram Virgin Vinyl, using modern facilities and equipment, and also using more expansive engineering techniques.
The Original Master / Father was pretty tired after so many Mothers had been produced from it, something that only a few records could ever boast about... but with over 30 million sold, it is small wonder that the original Father was knackered.
Even Alan Parsons has acknowledged this master, to be of superior
engineering quality than his original master, and has critiqued each
point that is better, and explains why. - Wiki and Google it.
There
is a lot of technical information about this issue available online, as
taking this record back to the beginning was a real labour of love by Pink Floyd Producer / Engineer, James Guthrie.
James Guthrie went back to the original 16 track master tapes of Dark Side of the Moon, to prepare the new editions at his Das Boot studios in South Lake Tahoe.
Remastered by Doug Sax and Kevin Gray of
AcousTech Mastering at RTI in Camarillo, California using the original
(Dolby A) master tape and a tube playback machine.
No high-frequency
limiting was added to the mastering (reportedly this was the first time
this was ever done).
For the cutting, Doug Sax handled levels and fades,
Arnie Acosta and Joel Plante made the EQ changes, and Kevin Gray ran
the lathe.
After mastering was completed at RTI, the metal lacquers were
sent to Holland for pressing.
This vinyl edition includes all original packaging with a bonus 30th anniversary poster by Storm Thorgerson, the original DSOTM art designer.
"I think every previous Floyd album was a step towards Dark Side of the Moon," keyboardist Rick Wright said. "We were learning all the time, the techniques of the recording and our writing was getting better." As a culmination of their inner-space explorations of the early 1970s, the Floyd toured the bulk of Dark Side in Britain for months prior to recording. But in the studio, the band articulated bassist Roger Waters' lyric reveries on the madness of everyday life with melodic precision ("Breathe," "Us and Them") and cinematic lustre (Clare Torry's guest vocal aria "The Great Gig in the Sky"). Dark Side is one of the best-produced rock albums ever, and "Money" may be rock's only Top Twenty hit in 7/8 time." - www.rollingstone.com
