Impulse! (Sparton) A-13,  1962 Original Issue 1st pressing Canada Mono

(hand-etched run-off matrix #'s:  A-13-a   and   A-13-B  RVG)

 

A major post-bop stylist on trombone with remarkable techniques, including wide-octave leaps and whiplash phrases delivered in a relaxed manner.

 

While the first pressings of this LP were released on the Impulse! orange-black label in the USA,  the original Canadian mono release (liscenced to, and distributed in Canada by Sparton) was issued with a dark red Sparton Impulse! label.

This one is the genuinely rare, 1963 earliest first pressing featuring a glossy laminated gatefold cover, with the Am-Par Record Corporation footer on the label, the RVG scribe in the vinyl dead wax (indicating an original master).......all in the original and glorious raw Mono mixes !

 All subsequent pressings (beginning later in 1963) featured updated labels with label footers changed to ABC-Paramount Records (and simply ABC Records on the later 1967 pressings).
