As singer Gregory Isaacs moved out of the 1970s (a decade in which he recorded some excellent straight reggae material and some definitive lover's rock as well) and into the '80s, he began to expand his smooth, romantic sound. MORE GREGORY is one of his strongest early-'80s offerings, and features excellent support from his then-backing band the Roots Radics.
Also contributing to the fresh sound is the fact that Isaacs produced MORE GREGORY himself (a good deal of his most popular work featured production by the top names in Jamaica, including Alvin Ranglin, Lee Perry, and Niney Holness). There is still plenty of the singer's trademark wistful, intimate sound on cuts like "Hush Darling," though he also mixes up the program with rebel songs like "The Fugitive." All in all, this strong effort deserves mention with Isaacs's best releases of the era.

Professional Reviews: Q (9/02, p.126) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Illustrates why he got the nicknames The Cool Ruler and The Lonely Lover. Here is subtle, loose-hipped reggae full of yearning, delivered in a languid vocal that can suddenly reveal deep hurt..."
