2016 reissue - Mighty minimal/cold/dark wave side from the hotly tipped Texan synth unit. This eponymous, debut album proper is their most substantial output to date, following on from cassettes and the odd vinyl for 'Living Tapes', Light Lodge and To Lose La Track. The likes of XXJFG are predictably all over it already, deeming it "An analogue incarnation of Rustie taking a couple of notes from Eduard Artemiev's poetic account of a supernova imploding upon itself in a storm of strobe lights which are but morse signals from God's ship as it sails across the empty black sludge of space…", and who can argue with that, really?! They're the latest successors in a fine line of modern synth-music explorers to hail from their Austin, TX locale, following the lead of Neon Indian, Silent Diane and Sleep ∞ Over into the inky beyond. But, unlike the aforementioned, Survive are super purist with it: they don't truck with vocals - everything's instrumental - and the accuracy of their homage, and the execution of futurist intentions, simply can't be faulted; therefore bringing you, and us, that bit closer to the dream.
