I bought this LP used in June 1977.
Cover - No shrink. Tape on top and bottom. “25c” written on front. Top left corner, untaped part, is raggedy. Record in sleeve slides in and out just fine.
Vinyl - Small scratch-like marks here and there. Plays very well, only background noise is between cuts, and that is not loud. Piece of clear tape on side A label, up at top of “T”.
Sleeve - Clear plastic.
Matrix/Runout:
Side A: MGV-51190-RE-1 N.Y. V-3005-A (Sideways block S)
Side B: MGV-51191-RE-3 N.Y. V-3005-B (Sideways block S)
Of course I wish this was in top shape. But even back then I couldn’t pass up a quality performer despite the haggard cover. I’m pretty sure it’s a first pressing.
What a record! There are a couple haunting spirituals here. But also some pour it on rhythm and blues style knockouts. Guitar, sax, backup vocals keep your toes tapping.
Ms Tharpe can sing and does make you listen.
