A fictional band, The Rutles were originally conceived as a pastiche of The Beatles by Eric Idle (Monty Python) and Neil Innes for 1970s British TV. The Rutles went on to become an actual band, releasing several albums and enjoying two UK chart hits.
Originally released in March 1978, The Rutles’ debut album also served as the soundtrack to their film All You Need Is Cash. Written by Idle, the movie featured 20 songs by Innes, all of which are featured on The Rutles 40th anniversary deluxe LP set for the first time.
Presented in a gatefold sleeve, the set features a newly remastered version of the original 14-track LP, plus a brand new bonus 7” 33rpm vinyl Japanese EP, which pulls together the six additional tracks from the movie. Also included in the package is the original 16-page 12-inch booklet and a new 12” two sided lithograph featuring a photo of the band on one side and the original 1978 press release on the other.
