Background -

The Wonderful Grand Band is an eponymous debut album release by The Wonderful Grand Band. The album was inspired by music the band played during a six-part television mini-series on the CBC called The Root Seller. The songs on the album are a mix of traditional music and folk-rock. The album comprises music composed by Emile Benoit and songs written by Ron Hynes. This album features some of Emile's first recorded music, specifically Emile's Dream which later, in 1980, the album of the same name was released by Emile featuring titles that also appear on The Wonderful Grand Band. The album also features the first and original version of the widely covered Sonny's Dream which also appears re-recorded on their second album, Living in a Fog.

The
Wonderful Grand Band is a Canadian music and comedy group founded in 1978 in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The band included comedians Greg Malone and Tommy Sexton. They released their first album, The Wonderful Grand Band, in 1979.
The group had an eponymous television musical variety show on CBC Television. This ran for six episodes under the title The Root Seller in 1978, before relaunching in 1980 as The Wonderful Grand Band, which produced 40 more episodes between 1980 and 1983. The show starred Ron Hynes, Sandy Morris, Ian Perry, Glenn Simmons (later replaced by Annan, who died in 2010), Kelly Russell (later replaced by Jamie Snider), and Rocky Wiseman (who was later replaced by Paul Stamp), as well as Malone and Sexton, who died in 1993. The show combined original and traditional music with topical comedy sketches and satire, some of which was directed at the CBC itself.

The band released a second album, Living in a Fog, in 1981.

The band reunited in 2009 for a series of concerts throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, in conjunction with the release of two DVDs containing 12 episodes of the TV show. A second, one-off reunion was held in August 2012 at a Ron Hynes concert held before Hynes entered treatment for throat cancer.

On December 7, 2017 The Wonderful Grand Band released a re-recorded version of Babylon Mall for the 50th anniversary of the Avalon Mall, with Mark Critch from CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutes on vocals.

CONDITION Details: The LP jacket is in near mint minus condition! The jacket is tight and clean, with NO seam splits, NO discoloration and NO cut out marks. Most of the original shrink wrap is still on the jacket. The corners are solid, with just a bit of shelf wear along the seams and corners. The colors on the jacket are clean and sharp - see pictures with this listing as they are of the actual item being offered. The LP is in near mint minus overall condition! The vinyl looks superb. The LP surfaces may have a slight spider mark or two, and/or dust and a finger print or two. Comes with the original inner sleeve - spider marks may be audible, but that really depends on the sensitivity of your audio gear. This vintage LP title is in top notch collectors grade condition, in near mint minus shape. As this is a vintage LP title, don't expect it to sound like a brand new audiophile LP....some extraneous sound is inevitable and should be expected for a vintage LP. The LP retains much of the original gloss and sheen! There are NO serious spindle marks on the record labels either - this is a superb example of this vintage LP title, in collector's grade condition!
A Short Note About LP GRADING - Mint {M} = Only used for sealed items. Near Mint {NM} = Virtually flawless in every way. Near Mint Minus {NM-} = Item has some minor imperfections, some audible. Excellent {EXC} = Item obviously played and enjoyed with some noise. Very Good Plus {VG+} = Many more imperfections which are noticeable and obtrusive.

For best results, always thoroughly clean your LPs before playing them.

LPs can be audiophile quality pressings (any collector of fine MFSL, half speeds, direct to discs, Japanese/UK pressings etc., can attest to the difference a quality pressing can make to an audio system).

Don't let this rarity slip by!!!
