As you'd expect, Aleksi Perala has made the most of his self-developed, 128-note "colundi tonal scale" on "Oscillation 1", the first of a two-part album release on Clone's Basement Series. Perala's blueprint is relatively simple - think inventive, interesting electronic rhythms rooted in techno and electro, overlaid with ear-pleasing melodies, colourful aural textures and emotive chords - but the results are anything but standard. The album's six tracks are largely dancefloor focused, but the emphasis on melody - a nod towards vintage '90s IDM and classic electronica - means that they make for gorgeous, life-affirming home listening too. It would be a little churlish to call it an 'instant classic', but "Oscillations 1" is certainly superb - particularly the fifth track, which sounds like a tooled-up take on Orbital's "Attached" with added bass-weight.
