THE FREEWHEELIN’

BOB DYLAN

Columbia CS 8786

Stereo

Originally 1963

This 1965-1967?

I bought this LP new in April 1968.

Cover - No shrink.  Few small perimeter bumps.  No writing, no splitting.  Very little shelving/handling evidence.

Vinyl - Some rubs, clean.  Columbia 2-eye labels.

Sleeve - Clear plastic.

Deadwax:

Side 1:  XSM-58719-3AC    0    B l l  l l  l / \ l l l

Side 2:  0  XSM-58720-2AA    B l l  l l  l l l l

Pressing Rings 69mm

Vinyl weight - 4 7/8oz, 137g

0 - Columbia Customatrix

I see no indications in the Deadwax that point to a pressing by the Columbia Pitman, Terre Haute or Santa Maria plants.  Customatrix did the metalwork for all of the Columbia pressing plants and maybe some pressings as well.

searchingforagem has the most extensive Bob Dylan variations.  Amongst the avalanche of information there it is suggested the White lettering at the label bottoms (360 SOUND STEREO with arrows) began July/August 1965.  That site indicates there were releases in 1963, 1964, 1965 and late 1960’s.  Numerous releases after April 1968 do not apply here.

Some particulars of my album are:

CS 8786 only to left of spindle hole, regular print, not italics

No MASTERWORKS text in bottom of label arc

Vertical text bottom left front cover - (C in circle) COLUMBIA RECORDS

Side 2 - first song above spindle hole

STEREO 360 SOUND explanation at top of back cover

1963 at bottom of back cover

Both Stereo and Mono catalog numbers on front (top left) and back (top right) covers

360 SOUND STEREO, arrows, in white at bottom of labels

Labels and covers match Discogs 1967 entries

Labels match searchingforagem Third Release 1965, but different cover

“A” on back cover, bottom right.  searchingforagem says A indicates a Terre Haute cover

printing.

Bob’s second album for Columbia, features “Blowin’ In The Wind.”  The liner notes provide quotes by Bob and significant elements as to the origins of these songs.

The variety of topics in his songs convinced us that Bob was someone special, an insightful wit and voice of conscience.  He was here to stay!

We sing along with verses embedded in our memories and reflect on how well he describes an emotion with a poignancy few others can.

The liner notes have backup to Bob on “Don’t Think Twice … “, but it is Bob solo.
