ACE FREHLEY FREHLEY’S COMET Vinyl 81749 Megaforce / Atl ‘87 US FIRST PRESS EX/NM. The Vinyl here is technically NM NEAR-MINT, but what you’ll see is some “deep-cutting / stamping” of the grooves. This is NOT groove-wear—I bought this Album new and have had it many years, in my own personal Collection. I did not play it much, I had the album on cassette and played that in the car a lot (it’s a great album!) So the vinyl I believe, being released as Ace Frehley’s Debut First Solo Album, though VG quality, it was a bit softer / lesser quality than the major Labels. Atlantic also appears here but they were the Distributors at the time, of this Megaforce Worldwide Label. So there is no problem playing this record, it sounds great. It was Direct-Metal Mastered by Sterling Sound, and Pressed at Specialty Records Corporation. (I left-out “Sterling” in the above item details section, in the Matrix number (from the deadwax verbatim, due to space.) But due to the vinyl used, these “deep grooves” are present in several places. They are just cut a “little sharper / scored.” There may have been an issue with the Stamper(s) or even the Mother(s), but these pressings Passed Quality Control /Assurance at the time, and there is no problem playing. I just don’t want someone to think it is groove-wear, and the overall NM quality of the record will show this. Budgets are tight and many times the top, best materials obviously are not used in debut releases. This is often seen in the Jackets—the paper / cardboard stock tends to age faster that major Label jackets. The jacket here is not like this, it’s a fine NM. It has an upper-left corner “saw-cut” mark. The inner sleeve (which has lyrics) has the saw-cut also, and there is some “pinkish” ink color on the sleeve, at the bottom-center area. I’m not sure but this may be from the jacket. Just a light sort-of “bleeding-through” in the areas without any lyrics printed. Otherwise it’s in very nice condition. And as I’ve explained, the vinyl is otherwise NM but in the interest of exactness and conservative, honest grading, with the several areas of deep -cut (stamped) grooves, I’m grading it Excellent (EX.) Plays fine and it really Rocks! , no worries there. Again, these are not “groove wear,” as I certainly did not overplay it and I have a top-quality turntable and stylus /needle. I have seen other copies of Frehley’s Comet, and this is a somewhat common issue on these First Pressings. Please see all photos and all details and info in the details section, at the top / beginning of the Listing.

Song Tracks include Rock Soldiers (awesome song about Ace’s drinking-and-driving car accident, with an excellent moral message to it), Into The Night (Idk but this may actually be my favorite song on the album. “…There in the night / Somewhere in the night / Oh how they do what they do / Just to get through / There in the night…In the night…), We Got Your Rock, Dolls and Stranger In A Strange Land. Also, Track 5 on Side Two, the last track, “Fractured Too,” an all-instrumental song.

By the way, Megaforce Worldwide / Megaforce Records, the Label here that I mentioned above, while discussing the deeper-cut grooves present in several places on this vinyl, was a great company. A husband and wife team, Jon and Marsha Zazula. Unfortunately, both have now passed away. They handled many new Metal acts including Metallica, Anthrax, Meat Puppets, Testament, Ministry and The Black Crowes. They founded their company in 1982. There is much online about Megaforce, check it out. There is a website too. Ace Frehley and “Frehley’s Comet,” which was actually also considered the name of the Band at times, used Frehley’s Comet as a way of showing people how to pronounce his name (think of Haley’s Comet.) a sort of pun really—intended LOL. Apparently Bill Haley and the Comets also were doing this. And Ace knew that. Still, I can assure you that back in the day, many people still said Ace FREEley! But it is definitely FRAY-ley.
