Rare collection of Rae Bourbon comedy vinyl albums.
Bourbon was what was called a female impersonator in '30s and '40s, his drag in clubs characterized by very raunchy banter during the pansy craze. Much of his bio was fake, as he was a teller of tall tales — after arrests for dressing as a woman, he would claim to have had "the operation" — but he did work with Mae West.
Along with the collection, I'm enclosing a tear sheet from THE ADVOCATE 1971, describing Bourbon's death. He was serving time for murder (!) at the time, having been convicted as an accessory in the killing of a pet store owner he wanted revenge against for presumably disposing of Bourbon's 70 dogs.
This collection consists of five vinyl LPs. I do not have a turntable, so I have zero idea of if they play smoothly. My impression is they should play, but they're sold as is. The vinyl does have surface imperfections, but these appear to have been loved, and all but 1 has their original cellophane on them (but were opened and played):
You get:
(1) "Ladies of Burlesque Now Appearing Rae Bourbon World's Foremost Female Impersonator" UTC 10
(2) "Bourbon 100-Proof" UTC 5
(3) "Hollywood Exposé" UTC 9
(4) "An Evening in Copenhagen with Rae Bourbon" UTC 1
(5) "Cruising with Rae Bourbon: Around the World in 80 Ways" (no cellophone)
The inside sleeves are plain, and some are slit through from vinyl rocking back and forth.
The art is outrageous and hilarious. Hard to find so many in a group.
Again AS IS.
