The Who Tommy 2x LP w/Booklet 1969 1st Stereo Press Decca VG/VG.
For auction is a very good listeners copy of Tommy by legendary British rockers and Hall of Famers, The Who.
Their fourth studio album released as a 2x LP in May 1969. Tommy is one of the first rock operas in music history and had a major influence. It tells the story of Tommy Walker who is traumatized as a child when he witnesses his father murder his mother’s lover. Tommy becomes deaf, dumb and blind and dissociates by playing pinball. He becomes an expert that develops a following and he still turns into a cult leader. Tommy was very successful globally making the Top 10 in 5 countries including #2 in the UK and #4 on the Billboard 200 in the US. The album features the classics, “Pinball Wizard”, “I’m Free” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It”. Considered one of the best albums ever, Tommy is often on best of lists. In 1998 it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and in 2020 it ranked #190 on Rolling Stone’s list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”. Tommy was certified platinum in the US selling a million copies. This copy is a 1st Pinckneyville Pressing.
Vinyl is play graded VG. Both discs have a few light visible surface marks but nothing deep that can be felt. Both play with mild background noise at times that is never overwhelming. Neither record have any skips or jumps. Please see pics.
Trifold cover is also in VG condition. Shelf wear on corners and seams of peeling and fading but no splits. Title is legible. Many small creases along edges. Ring wear on all sides. Super solid! Booklet with lyrics and pictures is included. Please see pics.
