In the West, we grew up with Pinocchio, while in the East of Europe, they all know and love Buratino, who is roughly the same character with some subtle differences.

On offer here is "Алексей Толстой: Приключения Буратино" (Alexei Tolstoy: The Adventures of Buratino), VERY RARE Russian-language edition of the story, featuring all roles played by Nikolai Vladimirovich Litvinov. Dramatization and poetry by S. Bogomazov, music by V. Shirinsky, orchestra conducted by B. Sherman. The records were published in larger numbers, but the box set only saw 10,000 copies made.

Nikolai Vladimirovich Litvinov (1907-1987) was born in Tiflis. The father of the future actor was from a family of Kuban Cossacks, his mother was a Pontic Greek. He graduated from the Central College of Theater Arts in Moscow (CETETIS, later - GITIS) and entered the Theater named after MGSPS (Moscow Provincial Council of Trade Unions), then played in theaters in Smolensk, Leningrad, at the Moscow Theater named after Lenin Komsomol. Since 1932, he began working on the radio.

In the radio play "The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Pinocchio", recorded here, was aired in 1949, and Nikolai Litvinov played all the roles. Having starred in 1937 in a small role in the film "Peter the Great", Nikolai Litvinov subsequently rejected offers of work in the cinema. According to his daughter's memoirs, he explained it this way: "I must remain invisible. For each listener, I look the way he thought of me. And I have no right to destroy this image ... ". During the period when Nikolai Litvinov was in charge of the broadcasting for children, the amount of children's broadcasting on Soviet radio reached 255 hours per month. Funny poems from the Baby Monitor, which help schoolchildren remember the rules of Russian spelling, have been included in many teaching aids. In addition to working on the radio, Nikolai Litvinov voiced more than a dozen cartoons. Not being a professional musician, Litvinov masterfully played the seven-string guitar.
