A LITTLE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT RECORD GRADING
Grading records is a subjective process. Most of us toiling away at cleaning and grading are perfectly realistic. 99.9% of descriptions will conform precisely to the guidelines you see below. Some of our small crowd are absolutely brutal and will gleefully delete that "plus" at the end of "VG" at the slightest hint of dust. Then, every once in a while, inexperience will lead to a controversial interpretation.
If you disagree with our assessment, please contact us for return postage and a refund of your purchase.
Records are visually inspected; the following chart is our guide:
Sealed: Due to their significant shelf life, rather than apply a “mint” grading we simply indicate the record is sealed and include a description of its overall outer appearance.
Near Mint: The record has no obvious signs of wear. Both the vinyl and the label are clean and bright. Part of an exceptional collection, curated with care, carefully handled, and properly stored.
Very Good Plus: The vinyl and label are clean and bright. The record will have superficial signs it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Any slight scuffs or very light scratches are hard to see and cannot be felt. Drill holes, stickers, writing, scuffs or other defects if present on the label, will be noted.
Very Good: Record has superficial scuffs or scratches which are easily seen but cannot be felt. Label may be marred by excessive writing, sticker residue, ring marks or other defects disqualifying it from a “plus” rating. Typically, records in this condition will have a detailed description explaining why this rating was applied.
Good Plus or Good: This record will only be on offer because it is particularly scarce or otherwise seems like some enjoyment can be had regardless of any abuses or improper storage suffered. Check the description explaining why this rating was applied.
