Sam Cooke Ain’t That Good News 1964 1st Press RARE German Import VG/VG-.
For auction is a very good listeners copy of Ain’t That Good News by American singer-songwriter and “Father of Soul”, Sam Cooke. This was the pioneering artists eleventh and final studio album released in February 1964, before his untimely death at 33 in December of the same year. The album was a moderate success at the time it’s release. It peaked at #35 on the Billboard 200 and all five songs released as singles peaked in the Top-40. “Another Saturday Night” (#10), “(Ain’t That) Good News” (#11), “Good Times” (#11), “Tennessee Waltz” (#35) and “A Change Is Gonna Come” (#31) all charted on the Billboard Hot 100. Although the latter only peaked modestly, “A Change Is Gonna Come” became an anthem for the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, has been deemed a classic and recognized as Cooke’s signature song. Cooke apparently wrote it in response to Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ In the Wind”. This copy is a rare German 1st press from 1964.
Vinyl is play graded VG. There are spindle marks on both labels. Vinyl has many visible surface marks but nothing deep that can be felt. Plays mild background noise at times that is never overwhelming. No skips or jumps. Please see pics.
Cover has a glossy finish and is in VG- condition. The title and top seam are completely taped from end to end over peeling and splits. Title is not legible. Top seam has wear of peeling and has an inch split from title edge. Also has an inch piece of tape from open edge over another split. It is also over the price sticker on front upper right and a rip on back top left. The open edge has creases and tiny rips on both sides.. On back there is a two inch crease along the left side. Ring wear on both sides. Stains on back. Despite all this it is solid and protects vinyl. Please see pics.
Good luck bidding and thank you for looking!!
