For auction is a good copy of The Bodyguard Soundtrack. Released in November 1992 a couple days before the film hit theaters, the soundtrack record features songs by the star of the film, Whitney Houston, on the first side and various artists on the other. The album was a gigantic global phenomenon both critically and commercially and topped the charts in all 20 markets it was released in. On the Billboard 200 in the US, it debut at #2 but it jumped to the top after a week. It spent 20 non-consecutive weeks at #1 and a total of 141 weeks on the chart. This helped make the record the overall #1 album of 1993. The soundtrack spawned four Top-40 hits, including the global smash, “I Will Always Love You” that reached #1 in over 20 countries including the UK and US. The song was a cover of an original Dolly Parton song that appeared on her 1974 album, Jolene. Other hits that charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US were, “I’m Every Woman” (#4), “I Have Nothing” (#4) and “Run To You” (#31). Commercially, The Bodyguard Soundtrack broke sales records. It was the first album to be verified by Nielsen SoundScan to have sold over a million copies in one week and did so for several weeks in a row. It has sold an astonishing 45 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling soundtrack album of all-time, as well as the best selling album by a woman in music history, and the best selling album of the 1990s. In the US, the record sold over 18 million copies making it 18x platinum and also received a Diamond Award for sales over 10 million. The album won 3 Grammy Awards, including the coveted Album of the Year. “I Will Always Love You” won for Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. This copy is a 1992 1st press import from Columbia.


Vinyl is play graded VG-. A few very light visible surface marks but nothing deep. Plays with consistent mild background noise that is never overwhelming. No skips or jumps. Please see pics.


Cover is in VG condition. Some minor shelf wear on corners and seams but no splits. There are creases on the lower left of front and a couple on right near open edge. On the back there is a crease on lower right. Ring wear on both sides and stains on back. Super solid! Please see pics.
