THE SYN – Created By Clive / I’m Following You

Top Sounds Records TS45 004

Limited edition 45 rpm record with promo card

During 1967 the Syn released just two 45s for the Deram label, which have since been venerated by fans and collectors alike as classics of their genre. Unfortunately not a great deal of previously unreleased material by the band has surfaced since, but the unearthing of a hitherto undocumented acetate has enabled - with the blessing of the Syn’s singer and songwriter Steve Nardelli - Top Sounds to release the first ‘new’ Syn vinyl 45 since 1967. The record features two 1967 recordings, a charming pre single demo of ‘Created By Clive’ and a fast paced Mod styled raver called ‘I’m Following You’, which was written and recorded for the band’s ‘Gangster Opera’ but never saw the light of day.

The single is accompanied by a 60s Decca / Dream styled promo card and is limited to 500 copies.

THE KONTAX – Near Me / Hold On I’m Coming (TOP SOUNDS TS45 003)

Limited edition vinyl only single in bespoke sleeve

In 1967 the Kontax visited a studio in Bedfordshire to record two tracks that were pressed up on a very limited run of vinyl 45s, on Luton’s Summit Recordings label. The single is so rare that only a couple of copies are known to have ever surfaced in collector’s circles, and the band themselves unfortunately remain annoyingly obscure. The recordings have never been compiled and Top Sounds have produced a facsimile of this prestigious record so it can finally achieve wider recognition, which is housed in a period style company sleeve. ‘Near Me’ is a superb atmospheric beater with a late Mod flavour which salutes somewhat the Association’s ‘Along Comes Mary’, whilst ‘Hold On I’m Coming’ is a raucous and thunderous cover of the Sam and Dave favourite which wouldn’t have sounded out of place on the flip side of the Mickey Finn’s ‘Garden Of My Mind’.
