For auction is a VG listeners copy of The Stranger by American singer-songwriter and pianist, Billy Joel. His fifth studio album released in September 1977. It was a top-5 record in 7 countries including the US where it reached #2 on the Billboard 200. The Stranger is considered to be Joel’s critical and commercial breakthrough. It. features the hits, “Just The Way You Are” (#3), “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)” (#17), “She’s Always A Woman” (#17) and “Only The Good Die Young” (#24), which all peaked in the Top-30 in the US on the Billboard Hot 100. Other classic hits from the record include, “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant”, “Vienna” and the title track. “Just The Way You Are” won two Grammy Awards for the coveted Record of the Year and Song of the Year honors. The album is Joel’s best selling non compilation record with more than 12 million copies sold worldwide, 11 million alone in the US. The Stranger is considered one of the best albums ever recorded. In 2020, it ranked at #169 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and was voted #246 in All Time Top 1000 Albums by Colin Larkin in 2000. This copy is a 1st Pitman Press.

Vinyl is play graded VG. Many visible surface marks and hairlines but nothing deep that can be felt. Plays with mild background noise at times that is never overwhelming. No skips or jumps. Please see pics.

Cover is also in VG condition. Minor shelf wear on corners and seams but no splits. Title is fully legible. Bottom right and left corners have small dents. Three creases about 2 inches each on front right side. Inch crease on front along bottom edge on right. A coup of small creases on back. One along title edge and the other along the top. Name written in pen on back on lower right. Extremely light ring wear on both sides. Please see pics.
