Smiles, Vibes & Harmony
A Tribute To Brian Wilson

Back in 1990, there were only a handful of rock tribute albums to any artist.  This was among the first ones to come out, and was the first tribute album dedicated to Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.  All the tracks were recorded specifically for this album and are not available elsewhere.

DeMilo was the record label owned by my company, Venus Worldwide/Venus Records.  We spent a lot of time and effort making sure this project came out great.

While people had heard of the Smile album, in 1990, very few had any idea of what the cover looked like.  This was created long before the album was finally issued, and long before any other tribute album to Brian Wilson came out.  The project was discussed with and approved by Dr. Landy, who suggested Musicare as a charity, and we were told by him that Brian Wilson liked the album.  While a few of the people on the album were not well known, there were even more submissions, some of which we had to pass on, we just didn't have enough room for everything.

A few people who you may recognize from other projects include Handsome Dick Manitoba from the Dictators, The Records, from the UK, who had hits with Starry Eyes and Teenarama were actually broken up and got back together to record this, Peter Stampfel from the Holy Modal Rounders, Mooseheart Faith with Todd Homer from the Angry Samoans (although Mooseheart was very psychedelic, not punk), Sonic Youth who have been around for years with a huge following, the A-Bones with Billy Miller and Miriam Linna from Kicks and Norton Records fame (Miriam was also the original drummer for the Cramps), Billy Childish and Thee Headcoats, who also had the Milkshakes and too many other bands to remember, Cynics, one of the top garage revival bands, and Nikki Sudden from the Swell Maps who also brought in a member of the Waterboys.  While these may have not been million selling artists, a lot of them were very popular in the alternative scene.

This copy is brand new, sealed from my overstock when we released the album in 1990.

For over 20 years, Venus Records was one of the top collector's stores in Greenwich Village, if not the world.  I closed it down in 1999 and kept most of the stock in storage and have just recently started selling it off.  There are still a lot of great items to come, so, you may want to put us on your watch list.  I'm mostly getting out of the music business and doing online marketing and helping business owners with their strategies, but plan on keeping my good reputation in the music business intact.  I started with music mail order in 1976, and now am back to doing mail order again.  If you ever have a problem, contact me.
