This auction is for a very rare and highly collectible copy of the Beatles LP 'Sgt. Peppers' Lonely Hearts Club Band' on the UK Parlophone label. Not only is this copy a Factory Sample, but it also OMITS the track 'A Day in the Life' on the side 2 label!!!

During production of this LP a huge label error crept in where the track 'A Day in the Life' was accidentally omitted from the track listing on the side 2 label. Now, you get your tiny label errors on other discs such as the With The Beatles 'Domion' mis-spelling, or 'I'm A Losser' etc, but this error really was something else! The omission of this track listing was almost instantly picked up by EMI quality control and corrected, but not before it seems just a few hundred copies escaped and made it out onto the record shelves.

But, during this extremely tiny run, a copy was plucked from the production line and given a Factory Sample sticker! Now, I've heard two stories as to what the Factory Sample sticker was used for. The first was that the sticker was used by factories when employees wanted to buy a copy direct using their discount. The sticker was stuck onto the label so that the worker couldn't then go out and re-sell it at full price. The second story is that after the promotional copies were run and the normal stock labels were loaded into the pressing machines, copies were occasionally taken from the production line, issued a Factory Sample sticker and then sent for quality control.

But whatever the reason, Factory Sample copies of Beatle records are highly collectible and very hard to find. Couple that with the fact this this particular Factory Sample copy omits the track 'A Day in the Life' on the side 2 label, and you have yourself what could well be a unique Beatle rarity! I've certainly never seen one before!!

Comes complete with it's original red inner sleeve and cutout insert!

The cover is showing looking really nice for its age with just a few areas of light, general wear and tear. The front has a pretty clean, clear laminate to it and a little creasing around the edges. The cover has a pretty good, rich colour to it although does have a very slight yellow hue to it. The mouth edge has a little wear and the corners have rounded slightly. Top and bottom seams are holding tight with no wear, splits or tears. The laminate on the spine is becoming brittle and and has creased and cracked, but the overall spine is holding well with no wear or spltting and is fully legible. The back cover has just a little dirt buildup on the laminate and is a lovely, rich red colour. Just a very light, faint disc impression and a few little creases around the edges. The cover crackles as you open the gatefold and the inside is a gorgeous, rich colour with clean, thick laminate and sharp edges to the openings. Just one or two little lamninate creases but these are hard to spot. Overall, very nice cover!   Inner Sleeve: G+

The original red inner sleeve is included and is holding okay. It's yellowed a little and has some light water damage at the bottom as you can see along a horizontal crease. The two side seams have split in the middle approx 3" or so. The bottom seam has also split approx 3" or so.
. Cut Out Insert : EX-

The original dark green cut-out is included (later cut-outs had a lighter, more washed out green) and is holding good with no attempts to cut anything out, and with a good, rich colour and just a little creasing along the top. Overall, looking good!   Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : GOOD

The playing surface has a nice shine to it but is covered in light scuffing along with some slightly heavier looking scuffing. On side 2 at the 9 o'clock position there's a scratched that's about an inch long that runs over the grooves which is feelable under the fingernail. There's also a heavier scuffmark just above this which is just about feelable under the fingernail. Other than that, it's just the aforementioned scuffing.

The labels are clean with bright, silver text. There's some light spindlewear and a little whitening around the centrehole that a previous owner has tried to colour back in with a black pen. Overall, though, the labels are looking really good!
