Catalogue no. ROUGH 126 - Rough Trade Records Many original Smiths releases were promoted by Rough Trade by means of 'white label' pressings which were sent to radio stations in limited numbers in advance of the release date. Such 'white label' pressings were the very first pressings of each vinyl release and were produced in very small quantities before the pressings of the standard production began. It seems likely that, generally speaking, the 'white label' LP pressings are scarcer than those which were produced for 12" singles, judging by the difficulty in finding such examples for sale. This auction is for an original 1988 Rough Trade 'white label' pressing of the 'Rank' LP, which would have been used to promote the upcoming release of the album. Such original promotional LPs are becoming ever more scarce and valuable, being seen less and less often offered up for sale these days as they are increasingly bought up by collectors, and this is therefore a relatively rare opportunity to obtain one of these original and genuine Smiths 'white label' LPs which is offered here in terrific condition (see below).

The record and labels are in near mint condition, having barely been played and having no discernable surface marks on the glossy vinyl. The white labels are very clean in appearance, with no writing or other marks. The standard outer and inner sleeves are in strong excellent condition, being flat and glossy with no creases; there being very little corner or edge wear in either case. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
