I use the following grading system:

NM Near Mint - the vinyl looks in immaculate condition with no signs of having been played and the sleeve looks almost as new with crisp edges and no wear or tear or fading of colours.

EX+ Excellent - The vinyl is in excellent condition with only a few hairlines or one or two surface marks. As with nearly all vinyl there could be the odd random tick. The cover might have very minor wear and tear or the odd tiny scuff or stain.

EX Excellent - as EX+ but with more hairlines and a handful of quiet ticks. Slightly more scuffing on the sleeve, but still very minor.

EX- As EX but with maybe a few seconds of very light background crackle here and there or perhaps one small scratch with a few quiet clicks on an otherwise perfect record. Cover still excellent but with the odd corner or edge scuff or small crease.

VG+ Very Good Plus - Vinyl will show more signs of play and include surface marks and lines which may produce some light clicking on a couple of the tracks or some background crackle. Sleeve will have some wear and tear like light scuffs, slight ringwear or discolouration.

VG Very Good - As VG+ but with slightly more background crackle or light clicking. Sleeve will have slightly more wear and tear etc, slight discolouration, maybe even a small, light biro mark or a deletion cut or hole.

VG- As VG but with clicks or crackle on more of the tracks. More pronounced wear and tear or marking on the sleeve.

G Good - The vinyl shows signs of heavy play and will have widespread surface marks and scratches which will produce louder clicking and crackle and possibly jumps or sticks on some of the tracks. There could be distortion and sound deterioration. The cover will have numerous defects such as creasing, ringwear, tears, discolouration, writing and scuffing. Usually still listenable if you can tune out crackle and clicks.

F Fair - Pronounced scratches or noticeable distortion, a lot of clicking and crackling on most of the tracks and probably jumps or sticks. More pronounced defects to the cover. Probably a shelf-filler only.

P Poor - Trashed! with constant clicking and crackling and jumps and sticks. Cover will have severe defects. Shelf-filler only.
