"For their second album, James Murphy and his cohorts certainly aren't out to radically overhaul their sonic identity. Instead, on Sound Of Silver LCD Soundsystem add texture to their patented formula and in so doing come up with a more narratively satisfying album. Opener, 'Get Innocuous' drops in with a bassline straight out of Telex's 'Moscow Disco' and includes some immensely entertaining Bowie-apeing vocal manoeuvres. While tracks like 'Time To Get Away' and 'Us V. Them' are very much a tightening of that DFA new wave disco sound, there are a few notable deviations from that path: 'All My Friends' is pretty darn awesome, starting out like a Steve Reich piece only to end up evoking Joy Division via The Strokes at their finest. Murphy's wry lyrical wit is suitably sharp on 'North American Scum' and the closing shot 'New York, I Love You', a weary, Beatles-tinged love song to his hometown. "New York, I love you/But you're bringing me down" he intones, before singing that most modern of break-up lines: "take me off your mailing list". Excellent stuff."
