The One is the 23rd  by British singer/songwriter , released on 22 June 1992. It was recorded at Studio Guillame Tell in Paris, produced by  and managed by . The album was dedicated to , and its cover artwork was designed by .

The One spent three consecutive weeks at #2 without ever reaching #1 in the UK, being kept off the top spot by 's compilation. However, it was John's biggest selling album in the US since 1975.

 collaborated with John and lyricist  on one song, "Runaway Train", on which  sings a duet with John. 's makes an appearance playing guitar on "Understanding Women".
