Great Shakes performance ads by The Who, Yardbirds, Tokens, Happenings, Chiffons, Blues Magoos, Spencer Davis Group, Dusty Springfield
plus bonus cuts by The Troggs and Stone Poney's.
Great Shakes was a powdered drink mix maker, who produced a couple of different flavors to make milkshakes from. In 1967, they procured the services of several popular musical acts of the day, to record one minute radio spots for them. These commercials were later released by Columbia Special Products on two volumes with four tracks each. This 1990's edition does not include all of those present on the earlier releases, but they have replaced some previously unreleased ones, along with two bonus tracks of commercials for other products. They are certainly interesting, fine examples of some of the schlock you would hear on AM radio back in those days.
