Offered here is a brand new, never used, New Old Stock 78RPM diamond stylus, a conical truncated diamond tip 0.0028" in size, mounted on a Shure M44 cartridge pickup mounting; the diamond tip was made by Expert Stylus (aka Expert Pickups) of Surrey, UK, long recognised as one of the foremost specialist stylus makers in the world.

A 0.0028" tip size is too large for LPs (even for early mono Microgroove LPs) but it is ideal for most 78s, whcih have much larger grooves than LPs - if you play 78s with an LP stylus the smaller tip will just rattle about in the bottom of the groove and you'll hear more noise than music! It can also be used for electrical cylinder phonographs...

These were bought directly from Expert Stylus Ltd as a lot in the mid-1990s, as part of an electrical gramophone/phonograph construction project - they are identical, each one as supplied new, packaged in its own jewel-case. One has been opened in order to take the pictures for this listing. The single green dot visible on the mounting is Expert Stylus's colour coding for 0.0028" - they use various different colour combinations of dots for the various different size of diamond tip they make.

The Expert Stylus diamond tip is mounted on what was in those days one of the most commonly used cartridges for 78 RPM reproduction, the Shure M44. From memory I think these styli will also fit quite a wide variety of other cartridges (including but not limited to other Shure models) but I cannot guarantee that so please check the model of cartridge you're using online before purchase. Likewise, I believe a version of the M44 is still made, but I can't tell you whether these styli will still fit that modern version.
