In 1976, nothing was going right in rock & roll.  On the good side of Rock, you had Aerosmith and Skynyrd with their respective Blues/Rock records Rocks and Gimme Back My Bullets.  There was also the nascent Punk style with the Ramones and the Clash.  However, that was all! As a bridge between Blues and Punk was a Dixie writer from Down South and his loud band that was a gang of Brother Rebels-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers-they were named.  Their mission-to save Rock from oblivion and early death.   1978 Side A Listen To Her Heart from the album You're Gonna get It. B Side I Just Don't Know What To Say ( a previously unreleased song). For Petty wasn't just boasting about trends-For the man himself and his equally angry band, it was a statement of intent and fact-Tom Petty gave Classic Rock back to the people as a Constitutional Right and the Heartbreakers-lead guitarist Mike Campbell, keyboard player Benmont Tench, utility player Scott Thurston, bassist Ron Blair and Brit drummer Steve Ferrone-became America's absolute best rock & roll band because they had and still have no other choice but to be the best Classic Rock band that ever will be.  Nearly 40 years-One Sound-That will never change.  And that's the Defiant Truth!
