Paul Yandell's absolute best friend from his high school days, Odell and Paul played the Opry, Paul with the Louvin Brothers and Odell with Kitty Wells and Faron Young.
Both men were determined finger style guitarists and like so many guitarists both young men were only known by their peers as excellent sidemen. The public seldom focused on sidemen so Odell never got to make a solo career and examples of his playing as a soloist only exist in snippets. Odell was killed in an auto accident in 1985 on his way to a musical gathering.
