As hard to believe as it appears there are still exceptions to the rule out there. For the past 15 years OPETH have managed to tread their very own path through a scene full of wannabes and traditionalists without ever heeding "metal laws" or fashion trends. Death metal was trasnformed into a melting pot in the hands of OPETH who added goth, 70s-prog-rock, folk and even elements of jazz with great skill transcending each genre in turn.

After their sonic double assault that was "Deliverance" and "Damnation" - one heavy to the point of bursting, the latter ballad-oriented - no-one thought it possible that OPETH would be able to cap it all off with "Ghost Reveries". They did so with ease. "Ghost Reveries" is positively brimming with grand emotions, brutal riffs, spherical guitars, acoustic breaks, epic keyboards, rocking organs, enchanting solos and vocals reaching from downright evil to heart-breakingly beautiful. You can detect MORBID ANGEL just as well as PINK FLOYD, KING CRIMSON and NICK DRAKE.
