Charley Patton: Founder of the Delta Blues 1929 - 1934
Yazoo Records - Cat. No. L-1020
Double LP in gatefold cover.  These recordings were lifted straight from shellac 78s, which were collected by Yazoo founder, Nick Perls.  As such, please do not expect modern day sound quality.  The sound reproduction is as you would hear if your were listening to these original 78s, including crackle, 'clicks' and 'pops'.  Furthermore, please do not think that the background noise that you will hear is as a result of the condition of this particular LP.  The only exception is the heavy scratch on side C (see below)
CONDITION - Visual Side A - Just faint sleeve withdrawal marks - Excellent Side B - A couple of very light surface scratches and sleeve withdrawal marks - Very Good Side C - Has a deep 1" oblique scratch as a result of something taking a gouge out of cover and record.  Otherwise there are just some very light surface marks and faint scuffs. - Good Side D - Has the occasional light scratch and a few sleeve withdrawal Marks - Very Good
Condition - Played (Project deck through a Denon amp) It is difficult to tell if any background noise is the result of the original recordings or the record itself.  However, I can be certain of the 30 seconds of soft 'thudding' clicks on Side C caused by the aforementioned deep scratch.  Otherwise, I see no marks on the record that would be heard other than, possibly, a light crackle.  The record does not jump or stick.
It is tempting to grade the record as Very Good as the 'clicks' are not really noticeable compared to the other background noise from the original recordings.
The Cover Has a 'gouge' about 3 inches long on the back which has gone right through the inner and has damaged the record.  Because of this I cannot grade it better than Fair. Otherwise, there is some faint ringwear, some edge wear, some surface scuffs, light creasing and tow labels stuck on the reverse.
The labels. Are clean and undamaged apart from faint spindle trails.
OVERALL GRADE (record / cover - see the grading guide below)

GOOD / FAIR (see note above about cover condition)
GRADING GUIDE - IMPORTANT!

I visually examine all records under a strong 35w halogen lamp, which shows up ALL defects.

I strictly grade my records according to Record Collector guidelines, which to me means as follows:

MINT- Must be sealed
NEAR MINT - Totally unmarked, no scratches, not even faint 'hairlines' / sleeve withdrawal marks or any other signs of having been played.  Genuine NM records are really not as plentiful as many sellers on eBay would have you believe.
EXCELLENT - No scratches, just signs of having been played, such as the odd faint 'hairline' sleeve withdrawal mark caused by dust that is barely visible under a strong lamp, or spindle trails on the label.
VERY GOOD - The first mild scratches have begun to appear, but only very, very few.
GOOD - More scratches than Very Good and more severe, but I am confident that the record will play through without skips or sticking and will still provide a good listening experience.
FAIR - The record may not play through properly with a chance of it jumping and / or it will play with significant background noise.
POOR - It definitely won't play without skipping or sticking.

Below Near Mint I will use plus or minus with a grade to highlight fine differences.

COVER GRADES

My cover grades are EXACTLY as stated in Record Collector magazine / RRPG. Therefore, if a cover is defaced, stained or torn it CANNOT grade better than FAIR. Likewise, if any part of the contents are missing it CANNOT grade better than POOR.

All records are dispatched using stiffeners and card mailers.
