Visually graded Vinyl: Double VINYL is VG+/VG++, Jacket is VG. Statik Sound System's debut, TEMPESTA, came at the height of trip-hop and shows all the hallmarks of the genre (thick beats and a delicate female vocalist), but has its own elements, like the tiny dribs of industrialism sneaking into "Free to Choose, Hard to Be" or the quick breaks of "Essential Times." But, most of all, is the adherence to dub rhythms and tones, from "Jack" to "So Close." The dub takes on a slow, romantic ache with "Amazed by You" and more jazz-inflection with "Dreams of Mine." But the final track, "In Our Own Dub/Jack Laid Bare" sends the listener out into space. Quite nice!
