Maag: Mendelssohn: A Midsummer Night's Dream (Decca SXL 2060 WBg UK LP 1st Ed.
This is an early wide band groove stereophonic ffss version with matrix no’s ZAL-3559-6D and ZAL-3560-5E. The label features the text ‘Original Recording by’ at 10 o’clock which denotes a first edition.
Vinyl is very glossy and clean, with the finest of light hairlines only visible in the right light. Fully play tested. Playback is crisp and very punchy, side one features a quiet, elongated intro, during which the usual background light pops and ticks can be heard. There’s another quiet passage around a third in where I heard one louder pop, but that’s it. Generally you’ll hear the usual very light background crackle in the quieter sections when played at higher volumes. Side two plays perfectly well, super sound quality, nothing extra to report apart from one audible pop heard in the quiet build up to the last track.
The laminated sleeve is generally very pleasing, flat and clean with just the odd slight corner knock or edge crease. Stamped number to reverse as shown.
