The Angel label was set up by EMI in 1953 as US Columbia terminated the distribution contract (and switched to Philips!). They had to use the famous "Recroding Angel" logo instead of the Nipper since it's trade marked in US by RCA. Earliest issues were pressed in UK with Angel label and imported to US to match with US made covers. Later when Angel set up their own pressing facilities, all were made in US. These US Angels were much maligned by UK dealers and some collectors. But if you listen to the early red or blue label pressings, and if you're fortunate enough to acquire some equivalent UK counterparts, you'd say they are not that different and not always in UK versions' favor! Some early UK pressing tend to be bass-shy with limited dynamics. And the thick, textured cardboard cover (some earliest ones with the wooden dowel, some share the same graphics with UK versions) are much more sturdy than the flimsy early UK covers! I'm offering this week a nice selection of mostly early issues. Many are very rare in either UK or US versions and a few don't exist in UK.
A daring first stereo recording of Das Lied von der Erde with a bariton instead the normal alto! Rare title.

Note: I'm a collector, not a dealer. The reason I'm selling is to downsize my collection. Every record I offer was hand-picked based on its merits on music, performance, and sonics (not necessarily in that order!). I will list recording credentials such as producer, engineer, venue, date, etc. as I believe as an educated buyer, these will offer crucial info for an unfamiliar record to make a buying judgement. Hope you'll find this useful!
