A lot of people criticize the movie, thus they criticize the soundtrack unknowingly. It's Mariah's most "poppy" album with a lot of dance tracks. They're all brilliant pretty much. Every song is great.
In reading some of the negative reviews, it seems that people were confused about the fact that this is a 'concept' album, one accompanying a movie set in the '80's - it was not intended to be a new material release but I guess being that the album is so old, it's a moot point.

Overall, the album is very good, Mariah is in good form throughout and as a previous review stated, the album contains old-school Mariah powerhouse ballads which should've made her fans happy in addition to three excellent remakes: "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On", "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" and "Funkin' for Jamaica, NY".
