Why is this record so rare and collectible?
Here is the Original Authentic Version 1 AD back Stereo (The Beatles First US LP) from Veejay released to the public in January of 1964. Why is this record so RARE and Collectible? Veejay had released two prior Beatles singles in 1963 that didn't do very well. They were also having financial difficulties. They pressed this record in June of 1963 - marked on the stampers - (7 months before its release). Approximately 6000 of V1 were pressed (1000 is the now accepted number for Stereo copies).
Veejay had a dispute with their printer also. Only the June 1963 first presses have "Printed in the USA" in a vertical font type on on the bottom left front cover.
VeeJay pressed this record with two songs they did not have the rights to "Love Me Do" and "PS. I Love You". Before the January 1964 release Capital, which now had the US rights demanded they remove these songs and they were replaced with "Please Please Me" and "Ask Me Why" for the official release. Instead of destroying the copies Veejay already pressed the previous summer VJ slapped the "AD BACK", a "Blank" or less than 5 known were released with the "Title" Back Cover.
Stereo Versions of this record in this condition have sold for 10k-50k.
It is the most counterfeited record of all time as it was released in January 1964 along with V2 with the corrected songs just as Beatlemania hit the US.
This one came from the personal collection of Thomas Vanghale of Fab 4 Memorabilia and the Letter of Provence signed by him from 2012 and the Heritage Auctions packaging is included.
