Here are four more LP’s that were recorded by Golden State Recorders and Mastered by Sonic Arts.  Under the stewardship of San Francisco’s legendary Leo De Gar Kulka, GSR and SAC were home to famous famous performances and recordings that ran the gamut from Janis Joplin to Turk Murphy to Vivaldi.

Mr. Kulka’s Laboratory Series records featured a realistic sounding, “live” recordings beautifully captured in stereo without effects or processing, and a simple, pristine signal chain, precision mastered using a Neumann VMS-70 lathe.  The LP’s were manufactured to the highest standards by Teldec in West Germany and include detailed liner notes about the performance and the technical concept of the recordings.  We are proud to being you these superb vinyl recordings -- great values on original, mint records from the SAC Lab Series Catalog.

I’m pricing this set of records on the low side because there were some pressing issues with one title. The Joy Of Mozart LP’s are slightly off center and are slightly warped. For the collector these are all nice albums, but I want to be clear that this one title should be considered B stock.

You get these 4 records, listed below. All are in the original shrink wrap except for the Joy Of Mozart disc.

SAC Lab Series #6
“Piano Rags; Ragtime Piano for Four Hands”. David Montgomery and Cecil Lytle. This album was recorded completely live, direct to disk -- straight from the microphone preamps to the Neumann lathe, with no tape recorder or processing. Selections include Hurricane Rag, Original Rag, Juba Dance, The Great Crush Collision March in B Flat, The Entertainer, Bohemia, Kitten On The Keys, Ragamorole, and Dicty’s On 7th Avenue.

SAC Lab Series #14
“Natural High”.  The world famous Turk Murphy Jazz Band, a 30 year San Francisco institution, performs The Girls Go Crazy, Just Because, Silver Fox Rag, Someday You’ll Be Sorry, Trombone Rag, Flat Foot, Texas Moaner Blues, Careless Love, and I Am Pecan Pete.  With Turk Murphy (trombone), Pete Clute (piano), Chris Tyle (coronet), Bob Helm (clarinet and soprano sax), Bill Carroll (tuba), John Gill (banjo and percussion), and Pat Yankee and Jimmie Stanislaus (vocals). Recorded in 1979, pressed in West Germany by Teldec, in the original box.

SAC Lab Series #19
The Midsummer Mozart Festival Orchestra, conducted by George Cleve, performs “The Linz” Symphony and Divertimento For Strings.  Recorded in 1978 in GSR’s 45’ x 50’ foot main studio, with its 20’ high ceilings.  Pressed on blue vinyl!

Repertoire Records #4772
“A Collection Of Rare Musical Devices Of The Last Century”.  This unusual, interesting album features recordings of antique music boxes that were owned by the Theobald family in San Francisco.  Instruments include the Troll, Decanter, and Swiss Stella music boxes,  a Wheelbarrow Upright P, and the large, marvelously complex Itona Music Box, and the calliope like, suction activated Photo Player.   Recorded on site with Agfa tape using a Revox A77 Recorder, mastered at Sonic Arts on a Neumann VMS70 lathe.
