Hi Al.
I have a 59' Burst Les Paul!!!!!!!!! How you can take a Guitar back 50 years in just a few days is totally beyond comprehension. I sent you an almost brand new LP, and you sent me back what can only be described as "the most amazing piece of relic work I have ever had the pleasure to see, let alone hold" I am absolutely delighted. I did'nt know what to expect upon contacting you, just thought if you could "take the shine off a bit" I would be happy. Well Sir, you have really gone the extra mile on this one. Not only does it look incredible, it plays superb also. Great set-up and the action is spot-on. I salute you. You have a unique skill which most of us could only dream about being able to achieve (no hammer and screwdriver work here!!!) and you deserve to be applauded. I would certainly recommend your work to anyone who would like a "professional " relic'd finish to their guitars, and a great set-up inclusive. It has been both a delight and a pleasure. Long may you continue.
                                                                                                                          Cheers, Steve.
Hi Big Al,

Just wanted to say thanks for the brilliant work you have done on my start.
I am completely made, up and feel i have got an amazing Dave Gilmour tribute strat, that i otherwise couldn't afford, especially in the current climate.
Your set up is great, and the attention to detail is genius.

I  have  handled a few pre cbs strats in my time, and a couple of years ago i was in the guitar centre on Sunset blvd in LA trying out a $5000.00
Custom shop heavy relic ( that i couldn't afford), I think my new strat is as good.

Thanks again.

Simon.

   Hi Al.
I have a 59' Burst Les Paul!!!!!!!!! How you can take a Guitar back 50 years in just a few days is totally beyond comprehension. I sent you an almost brand new LP, and you sent me back what

My name is Mark and I am the bass player for SYMARIP the legendary reggae and ska band and Trojan Records recording artistes, best known for the hits ‘Skinhead Moonstomp’ and  ‘Skinhead Girl’.

I came across Alan’s services via e-bay in 2008 when I was looking for a usable Fender Jazz Bass for live work with SYMARIP.  I had been using a U.S.A. P. bass – but found I needed that bottom end ‘throng’ that only a Jazz Bass can deliver.  I do have a ’74 Jazz bass but it only gets used on sessions and is too precious to take on tour.  The solution was to find a period looking but very usable Jazz bass.

Scouring e-bay I came across a wonderful looking ‘relic’ of a ’64 Jazz bass.  The bass had been distressed and set up by Alan.  It looked perfect for the job and Alan was amenable to an offer (always a good sign).  I was taken with the large number of good quality pictures of the bass in the advertisement which meant that I felt I knew in advance what I was getting.  The testimonials of others also impressed me.  The deal was done!

The bass arrived in good time and on my initial examination she was every bit as good as she looked on e-bay.  Despite being posted – the bass was really well set up – no need for adjustment and still in tune!

I then took the bass to Pro-Music in Ickenham and showed it to Leigh Heggarty – guitarist with The Price and many other good bands and something of an expert in all matters guitar.  As I flipped open the case at the shop – another customer (Ray – who own’s a ’69 Fender Jaguar) – gasped and said “Goodness - that’s an early one”.  I asked Ray what he thought it was.  Ray inspected it and said he thought it was a ’64 Jazz bass. Ray was genuinely surprised when I told him it was a relic.  Leigh remarked that it had been very well executed.  I told Leigh about Big Al and what he could do.  Some chin stroking ensued from Leigh – “Does he do Strats?”.

I first got to use the bass on stage when we head-lined the Desmond Dekker Tent at the Endorse-It Festival in Dorset .  The sound and action of the bass was fantastic.  We are a ten-piece band with full horn section and you need a strong and dominant bass sound to push the rhythm along.  That is precisely what she did.  There were more than a thousand people in the crowd that night and the bass really shone.  The next night we played at The Fordham Festival at Cambridge with The Bluetones,  Reef and the James Taylor Quartet – once again she sang out load and clear.

I have now played this bass through a Vox AC 100 bass rig, a ’71 Marshall bass rig, my Ampeg SVT, a Trace Elliot rig, a Krate Amp and a Peavey rig – it sounded fantastic with all of these systems.

In the 30 plus years that I have been playing bass with the like’s of SYMARIP, FOXY’s RUTS, LAUREL AITKEN, BAD MANNERS, THE CHELSEA PUNK ROCK ALL STARS, THE PRICE and many others – I have never been moved to endorse a product – until now.

To any prospective customers of Alan – I say this is a trustworthy person who does magic with his guitars.

Yours truly - Mark of SYMARIP

Hi Alan...Just wondering if that white Tele was still on the go or have you already sold it?...I will still have it from you if possible...can you let me know.   Just thought I'd let you know I was lucky enough to pick up the 50's esquire (ebay item #220091333936) you sold on ebay in March. I bought it privately from the original buyer. He contacted me to ask if I wanted it as he had bought it on a whim and no longer needed it... I love this guitar and have used it on several shows already. Everyone comments on its looks and I can honestly say its the best guitar Ive ever owned...It knocks spots off any other Tele in my collection..It's a real joy to own and you can be assured it has now found a good home.... Hope to hear from you soon   Best regards   Andy Perriss

Amazing relic job! I recommend this work 100%. Great ebay transaction. A+ Buyer: () 19-May-07 11:22

Hi Alan

Sorry for not dropping you a line sooner but I have been in Kent for the weekend so not near my pc. But I was near the telecaster but without an amp so spent the rest of Saturday and Sunday playing the guitar acoustically. There is an old saying about a good electric solid body sounding good acoustically before you even plug it in and this is so true of the this tele. I have just got home and plugged it in a podxt and the thing just soars – absolutely stunning.

I cannot believe what I have bought for the money – it feels like it has been played by a real player for 50 years. The neck is to die for and an absolute dream to play, the finish does look even better in the flesh and the whole feel of the guitar is just somehow ‘right’ – I think that’s down to what people simply call ‘craftsmanship’.

I think I must be dreaming, because in real life you don’t get a £3/4k crafted relic guitar for a few hundred quid! If anyone out there is thinking of bidding on one of your auction pieces my advice to them would be to snap up a bargain while you can – I have a feeling at some point a ‘Big Al Relic’ may even become a collectable investment itself. . .

It was a real pleasure to meet you and you may well see me again in the future, I will be watching your auctions keenly!

Kindest regards

Brad

After a relic? look no further, this is THE man! don't be fooled by the copycats Buyer: () 22-Mar-07 09:48

Hi Alan, sorry for not getting back to you sooner but i havent been able to get to my pc as I have been playing your bueatiful guitar for 3 weeks straight!!! the Jazz is absolutely amazing. As you know I have a US deluxe P-bass that cost 1K+. It hasnt come out of its case since I brought the Jazz home! The sound is fantastic through any amp and due to your pro setup she plays real smooth. With the 'relic' look she looks as though she has lots of roadwork behind her and I'm itching to add a few more miles on the clock! This is going to be my main guitar for any gigs. The P-bass will have to put up with being a backup.  I am going to be spreading the word about your abilities not only as a 'relic' artist but also as an A1 guitar tech as I cannot fault the setup. I have never seen such a low setup! I could well be back for a tele or, hell why not another Jazz!!!

P.S. Alan can you email back the tech specs, pickups, pots etc. I have a mind like a sieve and would appreciate the info just for my own 'records'.   cheerzs once again for the great guitar.   All the best   Adam

Hi, sorry - not a question about this item - I have been fortunate to be able to purchase one of your relics (original auction 220062531763) recently. It can only be described as a stunning piece of work and the best guitar I have ever owned - and I have owned many Gibsons, Fenders over the years - well done !! It's time to change the string which I think are probably the ones fitted by you - can you please advise me what gauge strings were used. I am watching your auctions for a relic tele. Why dont you try a relic strat with left-handed neck? Thanks for your help, Kenny

Exactly as described. Highly recommended ebayer, talented guy. Many thanks Buyer: () 26-Feb-07 18:56

Amazing piece of work. Buyer: ()

100% delighted with the Guitar. Outstanding instrument & a great guy to talk to Buyer: ()

Hi Al,

I just came home and The Baby arrived.
I'm overwhelmed. Not only that she looks like a beautiful grandmother who worked hard for fifty years, she also sounds like a virgin and a bitch simultaneously. The playability beats everything I had in my hands so far.
I tell you that I have added you to my favourite sellers so that I get a notice of every project you will offer.
Decidedly the best deal I made since being at Ebay.
Keep it up and thank you very much for a great guitar !!! You're invited to to use me as a reference to any future customers.

Matt from Cologne/Germany

Hi Alan, I am the guy who bought the Blackie type strat from you a couple moths back, and all I want to say to all the buyers, that i still prefer Allan's Blackie strat over my old 62 and 67. Iam a proffesional studio and Live guitarist for various international artists, no bull. Thanks again BIG AL !

ALAN, THE GUITAR IS JUST AMAZING , YOU SHOULD BE WORKING FOR FENDER !!!!!   IF YOU NEED A REFERENCE ON YOUR GUITARS , BY ALL MEANS GIVE 'EM MY NAME   ALL THE BEST     PAUL         {Fiesta red 60's relic}

Hi Al, just a quick E mail to let you know how pleased I am with the  strat that I purchased from you, it looks like it was made in 1957 & has been played & gigged every day since. It has been outstandingly set up by you & plays superbly. My  own early fender japan vintage strat that you have aged for me  is unbelievable. It also looks just like an early 50's strat should look like with lots of use over the last fifty odd years. As you know I am lead guitarist with the Essex based Cliff & The Shadows tribute band Rich Clifford &  The Saddows & will be using both these guitars in our live shows. I will with your permission be spreading the word of your fantastic talent & skill in producing  relic guitars that look & play  as good as ( in my opinion better than) many  custom shop instruments, but at a fraction of the cost. Wishing you a lot of success with your future projects, Regards, Alan  (The Saddows, Southend , Essex)   p.s. Please feel free to use me as a reference to any future customers.

Awesome !!!!! looks 50 years old very convincing superb guitar would buy again
