Question: Are these originally mono or stereo recordings? Luiz from Brasil writes:
Haskil went to the studio three times in 1956, all sessions being chamber recordings with Grumiaux. First in January to record Mozart's K 454 and 526 and the two following times for their traversal of Beethoven's violin sonatas (in September for sonatas 2, 3 and 8 and then in December for sonatas 7 and 10). All those sessions were in mono or, at least, only the mono tapes survived to be released on compact disc. Apparently, 1956 was still all mono for Philips. K's 31, 304, 376 and 378 come from sessions recorded on October 1958 in Basel. Those are in stereo and very left-right stereo, if I may say. As far as I know, those are Haskil's first stereo recordings since sessions from September 1957 (w/ Grumiaux, Beethoven's 6 and 9, the last to be recorded for their cycle) are still mono.
