Hoodoo Man Blues is not only Junior Well's initial LP Appearance, it is damn near the first LP by a Chicago blues band. Chess and a few other labels had reissued 45's by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howling Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, etc. but virtually no one had tried to capture the Chicago blues sound free of limitations of juke-box/airplay promotion. Delmark is proud of the part Hoodoo Man Blues played in the popularization of the real Chicago blues and of Junior Wells. But the credit belongs to Junior, Buddy, Jack and Billy - they made the music. We just sat and dug it.

Album Notes
Personnel: Junior Wells (vocals, harmonica); Buddy Guy (guitar); Jack Myers (bass); Billy Warren (drums).  Recorded in Chicago, Illinois on September 22 & 23, 1965.  The '60s were a very productive time for Junior Wells, but if any Wells album deserves to be exalted as his most triumphant recording of the '60s, it is Hoodoo Man Blues. This superb 1965 session is not only widely regarded as one of Wells' finest achievements, it is also Delmark's best-selling release of all time. Delmark has reissued Hoodoo Man Blues more than once over the years. It isn't hard to see why Hoodoo Man Blues is held in such high regard; joined by Buddy Guy on guitar, Jack Myers on bass, and Billy Warren on drums, Wells soars as both a singer and a harmonica player. This is the same working group that Wells had been leading at Theresa's on Chicago's West Side, and Koester (who produced the album) vividly captures the type of grit that Wells brought to the stage. This is a studio recording, but when Wells and his colleagues dig into "Good Morning, Schoolgirl," "Yonder Wall," or "We're Ready," they sound as raw, gutsy, and uninhibited as one would expect them to sound in a club setting. And while Guy leaves the singing to Wells, he really shines on guitar. Guy, it should be noted, was listed as "Friendly Chap" on Delmark's original LP version of Hoodoo Man Blues; Delmark thought Guy was under contract to Chess, and so, they gave him a pseudonym. But by the early '70s, Guy's real name was being listed on pressings of this classic album. And make no mistake: Hoodoo Man Blues is a classic. This is essential listening for lovers of electric Chicago blues. ~ Alex Henderson

At City Hall Records we understand that you want your LPs to arrive in the same condition they're described.  So, we pack them carefully in a cardboard mailer, insulated with thick cardboard pads on each side, and with reinforcement on the corners. We want to be sure you get your LPs in the same condition in which they leave our warehouse. 

We've shipped hundreds of LPs to eBay buyers and have had no complaints about their condition. Here's how we pack:

After you’ve used the Buy It Now button on each item:

1. Go to My eBay.

2. Click the Won link on the left side of page.

3. Click the Pay For All PayPal Items button on the bottom of the page.

4. Check your shipping address. If any information is incorrect, click the Change shipping address link to update it.

5. Confirm the order details, including shipping and taxes. Click the Continue button.

6. Click the Request total from seller link to request total.

Wait for us to modify the shipping rate on the invoice which we will send you the first business day after you’ve done this.  

 

Sealed LP Inspection Service

Since all of our items are factory sealed we cannot be fully responsible for the condition of the invisible part, unless (you ask us to) inspect it.  Even though incorrect, defective or damaged product is very rare, we highly recommend that you allow us to inspect your item before we ship it out.  Just let us know by writing INSPECT in the note to seller box when paying via PayPal.

If there is something wrong with your record that could only have been seen by such inspection, and you did not request it, we will not be responsible for the cost of shipping the faulty product back here, or for the shipping of a replacement item to you. We will replace the faulty item, however, as long as you pay for these freight costs.

Also, many LP buyers prefer to have the disc shipped outside the jacket to minimize damage to the jacket.  If you have requested that we inspect the disc, then we'll pack it outside the jacket.

We enclose an actual invoice with your shipment and do not falsify customs valuations.

If you are at an address where there are customs duties, and you have ordered an amount that puts you just over the limit for avoidance of such duties, we're willing to do you the service of discounting the merchandise a little upon request, if you'll allow us to make up for it with an equivalent increase in shipping and handling fees. We'd want your agreement to give us good rankings for fair shipping/handling fees in such instances.

Insurance

Like all eBay sellers, we're required to ensure that every shipment reaches the buyer in good condition.
