RARE Northern Soul 45 PAT POWDRILL~ I Can't Hear You / Do It~ DOWNEY 139~ MINTY! A side I Can't Hear You 2:05 B side Do It 2:21 **** Hear it on youtube *** Downey Records D-139
This exceptionally rare, Original 1966 pressing, Near Mint / Mint New Old Stock, Unplayed, New Old Stock copy was carefully stored & has never been played. May have a bit of ghosting on the label lettering & a hairs breath of storage / feather light sleeve scuffs- really looks like it was just bought from the record store 50 years ago! It part of an amazing treasure discovered stashed away in a house in the Philadelphia area. The owner was part of a Philly syndicated radio program and received many now extremely hard to find records through the '70s. Many of these records have not seen the light of day since then! Be sure to check back often as we will be adding titles regularly...This is an unparalleled find- especially in this Beautiful Minty condition- and a crowning gem for any collector.
This dance floor destroyer filled the Wigan Casino and can be regarded as a true staple of Northern Soul.
Photo may be Stock Photo. This record is very hard to come by, especially in this clean & pristine condition!
The label & vinyl looking minty. Never played, stored since '66. Glossy Vinyl looks & plays Excellent. Hopefully you will dance your legs down to the knees.
A side I Can't Hear You 2:05 B side Do It 2:21
When Pat's contract ended with Reprise Records, Pat agreed to record some master tracks for Nick and Jim. Two singles were released on the Downey Label in 1966 within a three month period. The first release was ‘DO IT'. At that time in the USA, most DJ's were reluctant to Play ‘DO IT' on air, as it was too suggestive? 'DO IT' produced by Nick Risi and Jim Thomas is very popular in the Northern Soul Scene.
"For what it is worth, the band that did the “I Can’t Hear You” and “Do It” cuts (music, claps, background vocals) that were released by Downey was:
Pete Parker - keyboards Ken Johnston - guitar Dennis Trull - bass Skip Metheny – drums
Those two tunes were recorded in Los Angeles in ’66.
Thanks for all your effort to keep this music alive –
Skip Metheny"
