A cover of "Green Onions." The good news is that this is a fantastic cover. Many have tried to do justice to the tune, but few if any have succeeded in matching the original. 's version does not bend to the visceral and funky style of the MG's but instead zaps it into high-1960s "mod" or "now sound" territory. It has snap, punch, power, and the period sound of such other "mod" monsters as "Soul Bossa Nova." DJs will love it, and the rest of the album will keep  fans scratching their heads in utter disbelief. Highly recommended.  Any ???s please ask. The groove is very hard and funky – certainly funkier than on most Machito albums – and there's some great conga and bongo playing on lots of cuts. The whole thing feels a lot like a Mongo Santamaria album for Columbia, and it's got arrangements by Bert De Coteaux too. Titles include "Hip Hug Her", "Green Onions", "Shake", "Soul American", and "Baby I Love You".
