BROSELMASCHINE LP, Island ILPS 9106, DE 1st pressing from 1971 on PILZ/BASF label. This album barely ever comes up for sale  This copy comes complete with its original  poly-lined inner bag.


The disc is in a MINT- condition. Pristine, deep-gloss surface, without surface marks or visible scratches. Careful inspection in strong daylight reveals just a handful of harmless wispy paper hairlines. However, they do not affect the sound quality of the record. This copy has received only a handful of careful plays on superb quality equipment and as a result - the sound is clean and warm throughout. In fact, apart from two odd low-key tics there is nothing else to fault audibly on this superb copy.



Inspired by the American folk music of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Phil Ochs and Joni Mitchell, German master of acoustic guitar Peter Bursch formed the first line-up of BROSELMASCHINE back in 1968 alongwith flautist/vocalist Jenni Schucker - a female singer with an irresistible whispy voice - Willi Kissmer on vocals, guitars and zither, Lutz Ringer on metallaphon and bass, and Mike Hellbach on congas, tabla and mellotron. Although many tracks bear German names, almost all are sung in English. The quintet disbanded after a first album in 1971 and Bursch, keeping only guitarist Kissmer from the original line-up, pursued his musical endeavours under the name of PETER BURSCH UND DIE BROSELMASCHINE, joined by percussionist Mani Neumeier (GURU GURU), drummer Jan Fride (KRAAN) and three other musicians.
Their eponymous LP is definitely their best: a wonderful acoustic album full of finesse of subtle Indian, Middle-Eastern flavour (sitar, tabla, flute) as well as Irish/Scottish traditional folk (mandolin, multi-voice harmonies). Their second album, released under the moniker PETER BURSCH UND DIE BROSELMASCHINE, unfortunately doesn't even come close to the first. In spite of its decidedly folk flavour and many guest appearances, it is altogether different and less inspired, putting the emphasis on Bursch's acoustic guitar techniques (although Kissmer's electric guitar steals the show at times).
For fans of EMTIDI, early HOELDEERLIN or other such cosmic folk bands, the first BROSELMASCHINE album is a breath of fresh air.

The feel of it is very solid. The vinyl is extremely heavy. This has a lovely deep glossy sheen!! Hauntingly beautiful songcraft!!! Immense quality kraut/folk album that ticks all the right boxes and incredibly hard to find. I have twenty five years experience in grading. It doesn't get much better than this!!

In all my years this is only the second time I have come across this PROG/FOLK MONSTER. Immensely scarce and probably the hardest album to find on PILZ!! Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy!!! NO skips or jumps. NO clicks or crackle, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .The audio is impeccable. Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.

                       

Vinyl: EX .  A sensational find!!! I have played this in FULL twice over> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more detailed observation. Only one wispy hairlines can be seen under a strong lightsource. Fantastic songcraft!! A personal favourite of mine and I am very glad to be able to report that this is a fine slab of vinyl without any problems at all and as such worthy of inclusion of any great prog collection. This will be an ultimate upgrade version for most collectors.  Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there is barely any surface noise. This is a beautifully clean pressing (and I must emphasise again how difficult it is to find a copy which plays this well). The whole LP sounds absolutely great and plays to a high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong EX+  for audio without anything untoward, hardly any static or crackle at all - great copy!! Of course, NO skips, NO jumps, NO ticks.

 

Gatefold Sleeve: EX.  A gorgeous laminated (inside and outside!!) gatefold sleeve in impossible EX condition. The edges are fully intact and unworn! One tiny crease on the back bottom corner and two little nicks near the front opening and otherwise this sleeve is a totally looked after treasure from times gone by. An LP that is rarely ever seen these days and possibly one of the last ever opportunities to achieve a copy in this marvelous condition.
