The earliest possible issue and according to the mother stampers this copy is one of the very first issued in the first few days.  It has the white "I" on the top of the label. Later issues do not have this feature. The earliest mother stampers: side 1 "GO" side 2 "GR"

On offer here is a VERY rare LP (especially in this condition!!!!) by Jethro Tull called "Aqualung" and is an ORIGINAL 1971 UK 1st Pressing on the 1st Press Chrysalis label!!!! THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!!!  THIS IS ONE OF JETHRO TULL'S RAREST LPs EVER - AND VIRTUALLY NEVER TURNS UP FOR SALE!!!!  JUST TRY AND FIND ANOTHER ONE!!!!  BACK IN 1971 WHEN THIS LP WAS FIRST RELEASED - IT ONLY EVER SOLD IN ABSOLUTELY TINY AMOUNTS, AND WAS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY DELETED!!!!  AS A RESULT IT IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO LOCATE TODAY!!!!  THIS LP IS MADE EVEN RARER STILL - AS IT IS THE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESSING EVER MADE - WITH A GREEN CHRYSALIS LABEL WITH 'WHITE ISLAND' LABEL TEXT (LATER ONES HAVE ISLAND LABELS, OR NO 'ISLAND' TEXT!), A FLIP BACK 'LYRIC' INNER SLEEVE (LATER ONES DONT!), 'ILPS 9145' TO ALL PARTS OF THE LP (LATER ONES DONT!), AND A GATEFOLD 'FULLY TEXTURED' COVER (LATER ONES ARE SMOOTH!)!!!! ****ELUSIVE PROGMONSTER!!!****PERPLEXING SONGCRAFT!!!***AN INSPIRATION TO MANY SUBSEQUENT TOPACTS!!!***

 

Gatefold Sleeve: EX+.  A supreme gatefold sleeve which has been cared for throughout its lifetime and is now 45years old. It looks like it was bought just yesterday! I have never come across a better example of this album throughout my time collecting prog and psych, now for over 30 years. Extremely hard to find this sleeve without any issues. This one is simply splendid without any issues at all. Beautifully textured without any creases and only the lightest wear on the bottom corner edge from storage. The spine is a delight to observe as is the super crisp opening. There is no writing or smudging. It is just as good as it gets!  This will be a great upgrade copy for most prog collectors.

Vinyl: EX.  Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen. A SUPERB VINYL COPY !!! Only lightly played by a most careful owner. There are a couple of the usual sleeve retraction paper traces and one wispy hairline on each side which is not feelable and does not sound.  The record still sounds out of this world, the vinyl being the extremely thick variety like only the very earliest Island issues and the equivalent of a Rolls Royce in private motor cars.
 Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there is barely any surface noise. This is a beautifully clean pressing (and I must emphasise again how difficult it is to find a copy which plays this well). The whole LP sounds absolutely stunning and plays to an extremely high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong EX  for replay  - great copy!! Of course, NO skips, NO jumps, NO ticks.

The original inner lyric sleeve is still present with the correct two flipbacks. It has a small seam split to one side.
