THE BEATLES YESTERDAY AND TODAY STEREO 2ND STATE BUTCHER COVER PASTE OVER CAPITOL ST 2553 STUNNING

Here is a really nice copy of the Beatles Rare Butcher Cover paste over Second State Yesterday and Today album. This was released in June 1966 on Capitol Records and is the harder to find Stereo copy. Ringo's sweater is clearly visible to the right of the trunk.  The paste over cover is peeled in a small area on the bottom right corner revealing the butcher cover underneath.

The cover is in beautiful VG+/VG++ condition! There is some light ring/shelf wear and a bit of corner bumping.  The seams are also really nice with a bit of wear on bottom seam.  The paste over cover is peeled in a small area on the bottom right corner revealing the butcher cover underneath (see photos).  The vinyl is a strong VG condition with light marks. The real prize of course is this beautiful cover.

This is from the Discogs site:

This release is notorious for it's controversial original cover photograph, known as the "Butcher Cover".

The initial response to the cover from the estimated 60,000 advance copies was so negative that Capitol recalled all 750,000 manufactured copies from its distributors for repackaging with a more conventional photograph.

Butcher covers are generally divided into 3 categories:

First state - Original unaltered version.

Second state - First state cover with the new artwork pasted over (generally known as a "Trunk Cover").
Third state - A second state copy where the pasted-on Trunk cover image has been (fully or partially) removed, revealing the Butcher cover photograph underneath.

The notoriety and scarcity of the Butcher cover has made it one of the most expensive and sought-after Beatles releases.

Grade Scale:

(S) SEALED = VINYL assumed mint, never open.

(NM) NEAR MINT = VINYL nearly perfect, no obvious signs of wear. COVER should have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes.

(VG++ or EX) VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS or EXCELLENT = VINYL almost NM but it might have a few more superficial signs of use and slight sleeve scuffing.  COVER may only have the slightest signs of normal wear.

(VG+/VG++) Between VERY GOOD PLUS and VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS = VINYL may have a bit more signs of use & scuffing than VG++. Surface noise will be more noticeable.  COVER may have slight ring wear or discoloration.  Very small seam split.

( VG+ ) VERY GOOD PLUS = VINYL may have scuff marks, very light scratches and signs of some wear and will have surface noise in spots, generally still has it's luster.  COVER will have slightly more ring wear or discoloration. Minor seam split.

( VG ) VERY GOOD = VINYL has more noticeable scuffs and scratches.  Surface noise will be noticeable (may crackle, pop or make other annoying noises), especially in the quiet areas. COVER has minor writing, tape or sticker, ring wear and more seam splits.

( G ) GOOD  = VINYL may have multiple scratches or small gouge(s), may have continuous crackles, pops, significant surface noise. COVER has more than normal wear and tear.
