78RPM GRADING CODES:
E+: Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets (never used).
E: Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches (seldom used; no scratches).
E-: Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches (usually very shiny and minimal surface noise).
V+: V+ is an average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced (an extra + is sometimes given for a record that plays like an E-, but looks like a V+).
V: Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive (visible signs of wear, noisy [more so when played on modern equipment], chips, torn labels, other defects).
V-: Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level.
G+: Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches.
G: Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise.
G: Music still prominent, but wear and scratch damage extensive.
CONDITION IN DETAIL: THE LABELS ARE IN PRETTY NICE SHAPE OVERALL, WITH ACCEPTABLE MINOR FAULTS. THERE IS NO WRITING. THERE ARE NO TEARS. THERE IS NO WORRYING SPINDLE WEAR. THE DISC IS IN PRETTY NICE, SOILD, CONDITION WITH A FEW ACCEPTABLE SCRATCHES AND SURFACE MARKS, WHICH PRODUCE A FEW SUBTLE BACKGROUND CLICKS AND POPS ON OCCASION DURING ROTATION, BUT NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. BOTH SIDES REMAIN RELATIVELY BRIGHT AND CLEAN. THE RECORD TESTED EXTREMELY WELL, STRAIGHT THROUGH, WITHOUT INTERRUPTION DURING PLAYBACK, NO MAJOR LOSS IN SOUND QUALITY OR AURAL PERFORMANCE, AND NO WORRYINGLY OBTRUSIVE POPS OR CLICKS. BOTH SIDES CAN BE ENJOYED ENORMOUSLY. ALL FAULTS ARE ACCEPTABLE, AND NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT TOO MUCH.
