Gladys McFadden & The Loving Sisters

Gladys McFadden and the Loving Sisters first started singing around the home fires in Arkansas when they were very young. The original members of the group “Gladys, Leona, Lorraine, Josephine and Anna ” are the daughters of the Rev and Mrs. Aaron Williams. The girls gained experience singing in the Reverend’s church and choir under the direction of their mother.

Gladys organized The Loving Sisters when she was only nine, and by the time she was twelve, she was composing songs for the group. The group faced a setback in 1951, with the death of their eldest sister, Leona. It would be a while before they would revive their singing career. Barbara Hyder later joined the Loving Sisters on piano and vocals and at times their sons (known collectively as Love Act) would accompany the group (Barbara Hyder is now deceased)

In 1962, the famed Pilgrim Jubilee Singers would “discover” the Loving Sisters and introduce them to ABC/Peacock Records. Their spirited version of “Who Can Ask for Anything More” sold extremely well and started the group on their way. They would tour with the Rev. C.L. Franklin (Aretha’s father) and the Mighty Clouds of Joy, among many others. In the mid-1960′s, the ensemble would be invited by Dr Martin Luther King Jr., to participate in some of his civil rights activism

Gladys McFadden and the Loving Sisters have sustained a career in gospel music that has lasted half a century, and racked up achievement after achievement in the process. One such accolade was their 1979 nomination for a Grammy Award.

This 1977 album is on the "ABC Peacock" record label.

The cover has a corner clipped off and minor corner bumps on the other three corners. There are also some tears in the shrink wrap and part of it is missing, but this classic, vintage LP remains factory sealed! The photos in this listing have been updated and are of the actual LP that you will receive.
