Artist profile:

Don Wyrtzen received an early start in music, radio, and television while associated with his father, Dr. Jack Wyrtzen, founder of Word of Life International. A graduate of Moody Bible Institute, The King’s College, and Dallas Theological Seminary, he has also done graduate work in music at the University of North Texas and Vanderbilt University. Wyrtzen’s forte is his improvisational ability at the keyboard. He was a protégé of Lillian Hawley Gearhart, a student of the renowned Theodor Leschetizsky.

Wyrtzen has arranged and/or composed more than 400 anthems and sacred songs, including such favorites as ”Worthy Is the Lamb,” “Finally Home,” and “Love Was When.” To date, more than two million copies of his musicals have been sold, including An Old Fashioned Christmas, I Love America, Liberty, Worthy Is the Lamb, and Embrace the Cross.

Wyrtzen has also arranged, orchestrated, and conducted for such major contemporary artists as Steven Curtis Chapman, 4-Him, Michael Card, Steve Green, Carman, The Gaither Vocal Band, Wayne Watson, First Call, Babbi Mason, and Andy Williams. In the late 1990s he conducted the London Symphony Orchestra in Handel’s Messiah and in his own arrangements of Christmas carols.

As one of the leading musicians and statesman in Christian music, Wyrtzen has lectured on church music, worship, and hymnology, and done piano master classes at Wheaton Conservatory of Music, Cedarville University, Philadelphia Biblical University, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Dallas Theological Seminary, Liberty University, and Bryan College, among other institutions.
