About this collection: This collection brings together material from four years and six albums by Marc Boland with Tyrannosurus Rex and then T. Rex and illustrates the transition from elfin hippy to electric warrior.
Side one's first five tracks come from the debut LP by Bolan and Steve Took "My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair But Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows". "Deborah" - a minor single hit in May 1968, "Stacey Grove", "Salamanda Palaganda" and "The Travelling Tragition" again date from the 1968 album "Prophet, Seers and Sages, the Angels of the Ages." The final album with Steve Took, "Unicorn" contributes "Chariots of Silk", "The Seal of Seasons", "Cat Black (The Wizard's Hat)", "She Was Born to Be My Unicorn" and "Warlord of the Royal Crocodiles".
The 4th Tyrannosaurus Rex LP "A Beard of Stars" shows a marked change from the first three above. Micky Finn came in on percussion replacing Steve Took and electric guitars grace the scene. Tracks here are "Woodland Bop", "Dove", "A Beard of Stars" and "Elemental Child".
Side four shows the Tyrannosaurus shortened to T. Rex and Bolan's phase as teen hero.
The two transitional albums "T. Rex" and "Electric Warrior" are represented by "One Inch Rock", "Seagull Woman", "Mambo Sun" and "Life's A Gas". To conclude Bolan's commercial success is illustrated by "Ride A White Swan", the single which opened the floodgates of commercial success in November 1971.
