THE BEATLES, WHITE ALBUM 1968 PCS 7068 STEREO, RARE NUMBERED SIDE OPENER NM/EX. Low Number 0114046. Stored away since 1970.
The Rarity:
This is a very rare crossover copy. Only the first few numbered side openers had the 7 digit sleeve number used on the top opening version which it replaced (when top openers ran out). The later, more common, side opener reissue had a 6 digit number. Even more exceptionally, this copy has:   Side 1/2, ‘An EMI Recording’ in small print, printed on one line, no brackets. Without ‘Sold in U.K. ... ’. Matrix no. YEX 709-1 & 710-1. Side 3/4, ‘An EMI Recording’ in large print, printed on one line, no brackets. With ‘Sold in U.K. ...’. Matrix no. YEX 711-2 & 712-2.
I believe the former (side 1/2 - without ‘Sold in U.K.) was introduced in mid January ‘69, (however with ‘An EMI recording’ printed on two lines and in brackets); suggesting that this copy was produced late December ‘68/early January ‘69.
Sleeve:
NM. Blemish free, VERY white on all four sides, minimal creasing, sharp corners and mirror-like sheen. The spine is excellent, with ‘The Beatles ... stereo PCS 7067/8 mono PMC 7067/8’ printed and clearly visible. It retains ‘as new’ stiffness and still audibly ‘creaks’ upon opening. A better copy would be very hard to find.
Inners:
Comes complete. Inner sleeves are original white apple versions (Made in Great Britain) without tears or staining. Four photographs are mint on ‘early’ thick card. The poster (folded in 1/8ths not 1/6ths) is mint and shows little sign of ever being opened.
Disks:
EX-. All sides have a clear, sharp and crisp sound with minimal crackle or pops and without jumps or skips. Side 1 has visible mark (pictured) however it is inaudible. All othersides have light ‘hairline’ marks which you can pick up in the light but that do not effect playback. Virtually no spindle ware. Labels retain original bright colours without staining.
This is a very unique pressing in fantastic condition. A must have for the completist collector.
